LD Tag Swap Grunge is in!

Hello Scrappers!

A couple of months ago I joined a tag swap.  I did two groups.  One had a French County Theme and the other was a Grunge Theme.  The hostess was wonderful to put up with what she did (there were a lot of tags)!  I wanted to take a moment and show off the ones I got back.  I think I was dumb and forgot to take pictures of mine.  I can't find any on my camera.  And I have to admit.  I am in an organizing mode right now so finding the ones I kept for myself...Well you can imagine.

Anyways, to the good stuff.  Sorry in advance for quality of pics.  I will try to get better ones with sunlight this weekend.  Here are my pretties!!!

 

 

 

Quilted Squares

Hello Scrappers,

Sorry this took so long to get up.  I have been working OT AND working hard to get my taxes done. 

Ok, on to the quilted squares….

Items you will need for this project include:

4 pages of 12x12 paper

16 pieces of 3”x3” squares (this can be cut from scrap paper)

ATG or over adhesive

Glue (Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive is what I recommend)

Scissors

Ruler

Pen/Pencil

Paper cutter

Circle punch

Score Board

I tried to coordinate the colors in the squares so that the overall look was more cohesive.

Step One:

Decide on the “look” you wish for the wish to create for your QS.  Layout the 3” squares in the pattern you want on a 12x12 sheet.  Attach the squares using adhesive of your choice.

Step Two:

Cut the following pieces from one of the 12x12 sheets:  2 each 1”x12” and 2 ea 1 ½”x12”.  Score these length wise at every ½”. 

This will give you two long “V” shaped “hinges” and two “Z” shaped “hinges”.  These hinges will allow you to fully utilize a 4”x6” picture matt.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO CREATE THE HINGES PROCEED TO STEP THREE.

Step Three:

Measure and draw a line down the middle of one 12x12 sheet.  Turn sheet 90 degrees and measure and draw a line 4” from the edges.  This should create 2 lines that are perpendicular to your first line.  See picture for details.

Step Four:

Punch half a circle using the circle punch at each 4x6 slot to allow for you to pull the tags out easier.

Step Five:

IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO CREATE THE HINGES, APPLY GLUE TO THE EDGES AND ALONG THE SECOND AND THRID DRAWN LINES THEN PRECEDE TO STEP SEVEN.

Run glue along the edge and drawn lines.  Put the two “V” hinges at the top and bottom.  Place the “Z” hinges on the second and third drawn lines.  Apply a small amount of glue on the hinges where they intersect the first drawn line.  This will keep the tags from being pushed in too far.  TIP:  Use paper clips to help you hold the hinges in place as the glue dries.

Step Six:

Apply glue along the top “V” hinge and the First drawn line between the two top hinges.  Attach the 12x12 sheet with the 3” squares to the top hinge.  Make sure that edges are even when laying the 3” 12x12 sheet down.  DO NOT APPLY GLUE TO ALL HINGES AND DOWN THE FIRST DRAWN LINE.  WORK IN STAGES TO KEEP IT FROM GETTING MESSY.  (Listen to the voice of experience.  I did this the first time and it was a MESS!)  Continue applying glue and attaching the 3” 12x12 sheet.  TIP:  Use paper clips to hold both 12x12 sheets together as they dry.  DO NOT use a lot of glue as it may get in areas you don’t want it to.

Step Seven:

IF YOU USED THE HINGES CONTINUE TO STEP EIGHT.

Apply glue along the top edge and down the first drawn line until you get to the second drawn line.  Attach the 12x12 sheet with the 3” squares to the top edge.  Make sure that edges are even when laying the 3” 12x12 sheet down.  DO NOT APPLY GLUE TO ALL LINES AT ONCE.  WORK IN STAGES TO KEEP IT FROM GETTING MESSY.  (Listen to the voice of experience.  I did this the first time and it was a MESS!)  Continue applying glue to the drawn lines and bottom edge, attaching the 3” 12x12 sheet as you go.  TIP:  Use paper clips to hold both 12x12 sheets together as they dry.  DO NOT use a lot of glue as it may get in areas you don’t want it to.

Step Eight:

Take the third 12x12 sheet and cut it into six 4”x6” rectangles.

Step Nine:

Once the glue is dry, you can begin to “decorate the front”.  Visit my previous posts to get ideas.  And remember, ANYTHING GOES!  If you want you can also punch ½ circles in the front 3” 12x12 sheet as well or leave it solid.

Quilted Squares

I am not getting this up as quickly as I wanted, but here they are!  The samples of the quilted squares...

First up is the one I made for my dad.  The title is "For The King of The Cows".  He is a cow man through and through...

Next is one that I created for my sister.  BIG Alabama fan in case you didn't get that...

This one is my favorite...

This quilted square will be one that I give away as a door prize at the class.

And last but not least, I was going for the shabby chic look on this one.

That's it! As you can image these took a while to make.  I made 5 of each one.....So you can guess how long that took!!  If you want to know the exact colors of the ink and mists, just ask and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Tags Unveiled....

So how did I make them?

Here are the instructions for the basic tag.  Each tag, of course, has different embellies and therefore was finished a little differently...

1-Cut white card stock to the size desired
2-Emboss white card stock
3-Spritz 2 to 3 different mists onto each tag, mixing color to achieve the desired result
4-Cut a second tag out of card stock and glue to the Embossed/misted tag
5-Cut upper corners
6-Use Tim Holtz distressing tool to distress all edges
7-Color edges, back, and front (just a little on front!) with distress inks
8-Punch holes at top
9-Load up the tag with embellies!!!!

Each tag was simple in design, but took a while to figure out what I exactly what I wanted to do.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will get back with you as soon as I can...

Tag Delight 2

Hey everyone!

I wanted to get these up earlier, but holidays and new craft projects have been keeping me busy.  It is a new year!  I will be teaching craft time at a Women's Bible Study retreat in Guntersville, AL on Feb 18th.  I am calling the project "Quilted Squares".  Hopefully I will have a few of the demos completed over the next couple of weeks.
